About the resource

This open-educational resource explores the technoscientific, historical, and social dimensions of the oil and gas industry in Qatar. Our team noticed that coverage of the oil and gas industry in Qatar had previously been predominantly one-dimensional –– we wanted to change that.

We drew skills, expertise and experience from Texas A&M at Qatar and Northwestern University in Qatar professors and students to make this resource. Our goal was to provide an interdisciplinary approach to learning about the oil and gas industry in Qatar – accessible to those without prior knowledge.

To produce this resource, our team explored primary and secondary sources both online and in physical locations (including: Qatar National Museum, Qatar National Library, Company House, and the Gulf Times Library). In addition to that, we also interviewed female and male engineers and managers in Qatar and the region to learn about their experience of being in the industry as well as any thoughts or hopes they have about the future of the industry. These interviews were later analyzed through keyword-focused textual analysis (using LancsBox) to find key themes and to aid in writing Module 3.
